There’s something about Leatherhead that just oozes cool. Maybe it’s the tough, scaly exterior. Or the fact that this reptilian superhero always has a witty comeback at the ready.
Whatever the reason, kids can’t get enough of Nickelodeon’s Leatherhead. First introduced in the 1980s as a member of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Leatherhead quickly became a fan-favorite character. And it’s not hard to see why.
As one of only a handful of non-human characters on the show, he brought a unique perspective – and some serious martial arts skills – to the team. Plus, who doesn’t love a good turtle/alligator hybrid?
If you’re a fan of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, then you’ll be excited to hear that Nickelodeon has released a new line of TMNT products, including a Leatherhead figure! This figure is highly detailed and articulated, making it perfect for both play and display. He comes with his signature weapons and accessories, and even has a removable shell!
Whether you’re a die-hard TMNT fan or just getting into the franchise, this figure is a must-have.
Does Leatherhead Have Ptsd?
Leatherhead does not have PTSD. He was never in the military, and he’s never been through any particularly traumatizing experiences. However, he is an incredibly anxious turtle who struggles with some pretty severe panic attacks.
As a result, many people believe that he likely has undiagnosed PTSD.
Is Leatherhead a Crocodile Or Alligator?
Leatherhead is a crocodile, not an alligator. Both crocodiles and alligators are reptiles, but they belong to different families. Crocodiles are in the family Crocodylidae, while alligators are in the family Alligatoridae.
There are several ways to tell a crocodile from an alligator. For one, crocodiles tend to be much larger than alligators. An adult male saltwater crocodile can reach lengths of 23 feet (7 meters), while the largest recorded alligator was just over 19 feet (5.8 meters) long.
Another way to tell them apart is by their snouts: crocodiles have narrow, V-shaped snouts, while alligators have wider U-shaped ones. And if you look at their teeth, you’ll notice that crocodiles have sharper teeth that point inward, while alligator teeth are blunter and angle outward slightly. Finally, you can usually tell a croc’s skin from an gator’s because crocs’ scales tend to be more jagged and rough-looking.
So there you have it! The next time you’re trying to figure out whether you’re looking at a croc or an gator, remember these key differences.
Is Leatherhead a Good Guy?
Yes, Leatherhead is definitely a good guy! He’s always been shown to be a heroic and selfless character, always putting others before himself. He’s also been a great friend to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, often lending them a helping hand when they need it.
How Old is Leatherhead in Tmnt?
In the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics, Leatherhead is an anthropomorphic alligator who was mutated by toxic chemicals. He is a fierce fighter and loyal friend to the turtles, often acting as their muscle. While his exact age is never stated in the comics, it’s safe to assume that he’s at least several years older than the turtles, who are teenagers.
In the Nickelodeon animated series, which is set in present day, Leatherhead is around 20 years old. He was born and raised in the swamps of Louisiana before being captured by a group of hunters and sold to a laboratory. There, he was subjected to cruel experiments that caused him to mutate into an alligator-like creature.
He eventually escaped and made his way to New York City, where he met and befriended the turtles. While Leatherhead may look like a fearsome creature, he’s actually quite gentle and compassionate. He loves nature and animals (especially his pet turtle Spike), and hates anyone who hurts them.
He’s also fiercely protective of his friends, always ready to fight anyone who threatens them. No matter what form he takes, Leatherhead will always be a loyal friend to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Leatherhead Tmnt 2003
Leatherhead is a mutant turtle who appeared in the 2003 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series. He is a large, strong, and ferocious reptilian humanoid with sharp teeth and claws. He is also one of the few mutants who can speak English fluently.
He was once an ordinary snapping turtle who was mutated by mutagenic ooze. Leatherhead became friends with Raphael after he saved him from being captured by Hun’s Foot Clan. He later met and befriended the other turtles: Leonardo, Michelangelo, and Donatello.
Leatherhead is a valuable ally to the turtles. He has helped them out of many tough situations with his great strength and fighting skills. He is also very intelligent, often able to figure out solutions to problems when the turtles are stumped.
Despite his fearsome appearance, Leatherhead is actually a gentle giant who just wants to be loved and accepted. Unfortunately, his rough exterior often scares people away before they get to know him. But those who take the time to get to know him quickly learn that he’s really a big softie at heart.
Leatherhead Tmnt Age
If you were a fan of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles growing up, then you’re probably familiar with Leatherhead. He was one of the more popular characters on the show and even had his own action figure. But what you may not know is that Leatherhead is actually quite old…in turtle years.
In the original Mirage comic books, it is revealed that Leatherhead was born in 1758. This would make him over 250 years old by the time the events of the comics take place. In the 2003 animated series, his backstory was changed a bit and it was said that he was born in 1860.
This would make him around 200 years old when the series takes place. So how does a turtle age? Well, turtles age very slowly compared to humans.
On average, they live to be around 30-40 years old in captivity and 50-70 years old in the wild. So if we assume that Leatherhead has an average lifespan, then he is definitely on the older side for a turtle. But despite his age, Leatherhead is still going strong and is often seen as one of the more powerful members of the TMNT team.
He may not be as fast or agile as some of his younger teammates, but his strength and durability more than make up for it. So next time you watch an episode of TMNT featuring Leatherhead, just remember that he’s been around for centuries!
The Nickelodeon character Leatherhead is getting his own show! The new series will focus on the alligator’s adventures in the Louisiana bayou. Executive Producer Chris Viscardi says, “Leatherhead is a fan-favorite character with a rich history in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles universe. We’re excited to dive deeper into his story and explore what makes him tick.”
The new show will debut in 2019.
